While much of the East Side has experienced devastating hardship over the past few decades, Schiller Park has remained one of the more stable communities. While not completely immune to population loss and demolition, Schiller Park still maintains much of it's urban density.

South Buffalo
South Buffalo streets are filled with stately Victorian homes even though the neighborhood has seen better days. Much history is weaved throughout the neighborhood and is still ever present today.

University Heights
University Heights surrounds the South Campus of University of Buffalo and boasts plenty of shops, restaurants and clubs.

Vernon Triangle
A small but densely populated neighborhood just off of Main Street. Vernon Triangle is made up of only four streets.

Willert Park
The U.S. Housing Authority constructed the Willert Park Courts in the heart of the neighborhood in 1939, which now sit mainly empty.

Once considered to be the most dangerous neighborhood in the city, the Fruit Belt has become a beautiful neighborhood just on the cusp of the booming medical corridor.

Kensington
A traditionally German, Polish and Italian neighborhood, dating back to the late 1800s, Kensington used to be one of the most densely populated areas of the city.

Hospital Hill
Also known as the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, this section of town is a booming hub for all health and science activities in the city. Over the past few years this neighborhood, in addition to the nearby Fruit Belt, have seen great amounts of investment with new medical buildings constantly being built.

Humbolt Park
Home to Martin Luther King Jr. Park and the Buffalo Museum of Science, the Humbolt Park neighborhood used to be a grand area of the city, highlighted by a beautiful parkway designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The parkway was removed to make room for a highway and much of the neighborhood has fallen into disrepair.

Kaisertown
One of the farthest reaching neighborhoods in the city, Kaisertown used to represent one of the final vestiges of Native American ownership and occupation in the area.

Downtown
The downtown core of Buffalo is home to the celebrated city hall, the Statler building and the McKinley monument.

As the second largest city in the state next to New York City, it should come as no surprise the Buffalo is comprised of a variety of unique and interesting neighborhoods. In total the city is comprised of 32 different neighborhoods, some of which are more easily recognized than others, but each has its own individual story.

Elmwood Village
The Village is a microcosm of activity with coffee shops, restaurants, clothing boutiques and bars.

Fillmore-Leroy
While the neighborhood has been an economically deprived one for years there has been a significant push in investment recently with plans to develop a massive housing development on what was once the Central Park plaza--an underutilized and vastly neglected shopping center in the heart of the neighborhood.

First Ward
Buffalo's Old First Ward neighborhood is one of the most storied locations in the city with its foundation dating back over 200 years to when the city was just a small village on the river. When manufacturing started to turn the city into a shipping hub, thanks to the Erie Canal, many of those who worked the barges called this small section of the city home due to its proximity to the water.

Allentown
This bohemian mecca is Buffalo’s version of the Lower East Side in New York City. The stretch of Allen Street between Main and Wadsworth Street is dotted with dive bars, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, chic eateries, bookstores and clothing shops. It also encompasses the majority of the gay clubs and bars in the city.

Broadway-Fillmore
Once known as the Polonia district for its vast number of Polish immigrants, this section of the East Side plays host to the annual Dyngus Day festival that celebrates the Polish heritage and the end of Lent.

Central Park
Not to be confused with New York's Central Park, this section of Buffalo is named after a development conceived by the owner of the Buffalo Cement Company.

Cold Springs
The East Side of Buffalo is a vast neighborhood comprised of a handful of smaller neighborhoods that each have their unique identity. Cold Springs lies in the north portion of the East Side, adjacent to Forest Lawn Cemetery. Unfortunately, many of the historic buildings and homes throughout the Cold Springs neighborhood have been demolished over the years as it was one of the harder hit neighborhoods when the population of the city started its decline.

Delaware District
Stretching down the center of Buffalo, the Delaware District was once known as millionaire's row for the lavish homes that graced the street. While many still exist, most are no longer single family homes.

East Side
The East Side of the city is a neighborhood comprised of a handful of smaller communities including Cold Springs, Broadway Fillmore and Hamlin Park, to name a few. The overall area was the hardest hit neighborhood when the population of the city began its decline over a half-century ago. While portions of the city retain a strong community base many streets are nearly completely empty stretches of overgrown lots and boarded up houses.

Buffalo's Central Terminal
But things are starting to look up for the Central Terminal. Restoration started a few years back with hopes of bringing it back to its former glory after the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation purchased the property from the city for $1 and assumed $70,000 in back taxes. While it is unlikely that the terminal will ever be used as a train station again are slim, there are hopes of using the space as an event space with the potential of either offices or apartments in the tower.

The now abandoned structure is located 2.5 miles from downtown Buffalo and was built on the outskirts of the city in hopes that the surrounding neighborhood would grow in its presence. They also wanted to avoid the congestion that had plagued their two previous stations that were located downtown. For years, the surrounding streets bustled with activity but in recent decades the neighborhood has been in a steep decline.
