Wade Chapel - Lake View Cemetery - Cleveland Ohio
Jeptha Wade Jr. had the Wade Chapel constructed in 1901 in memory of his famous grandfather. The Greek revival structure, designed by the architectural firm of Hubbell and Benes. The interior of the chapel was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and is one of the few Tiffany interiors still intact.

Lake View Cemetery - John D. Rockefeller's Monument
When industrialist, John D. Rockefeller died in 1937 at the age of 98, he wished to be buried at Lake View Cemetery in the city he once called home. A 70-foot obelisk marks his grave.

Charles Frances Brush (1849-1929) was a Cleveland inventor whose original arc street light still stands at Public Square. His Brush Electric Company ultimately became General Electric. The Brush monument at Lake View Cemetery was created by Joseph Carabelli, who also created the John D. Rockefeller obelisk and the Wade Chapel.

Lakeview Cemetery, founded in 1869 by wealthy Clevelanders including Jeptha Wade, was modeled after Boston's Mount Auburn Cemetery as well as the historic cemeteries of France and England. The 285-acre scenic park is home to over 102,000 graves, with an average of 700 burials annually. Although the cemetery is known for its illustrious residents, anyone can be buried there, regardless of race, creed, religion, or walk of life.

West Sister Island Light Tower
The West Sister Island Light Tower marks the west end of the south passage through the Bass Islands, north of Port Clinton and Sandusky Ohio. The still-active light station was built in 1847, then raised and rebuilt in 1868. The 55-foot white stucco structure is not open to the public, but may be viewed by boat.

The South Bass Island Lighthouse, located on the southwestern coast of South Bass Island not far from Put-in-Bay, was established in 1897. The Queen Anne style structure is unique in that the living quarters are attached to the tower and the red brick building features a full basement and 2 1/2 floors of living space.

Lake Erie's Marblehead Lighthouse
The Marblehead Lighthouse, located on the north side of the entrance to Sandusky Bay, is the oldest Great Lakes lighthouse in continuous operation. The structure, built in 1822 of native Ohio limestone, stands 50 feet tall. It measures 25 feet at the base, with five-foot thick walls.

Lake Erie's Vermillion Lighthouse
The lighthouse at Vermilion sits at the edge of downtown, adjacent to the Inland Seas Maritime Museum. The structure is a replica of the original, wooden lighthouse, built in 1847. The attractive lighthouse is just steps away from one of the few sandy beaches along this stretch of Lake Erie.

Lake Erie's Lorain Breakwater West Lighthouse
The Lorain lighthouse sits at the end of the west breakwater in Lorain harbor. The structure, built in 1916, guided Lake Erie ships for 50 years before being allowed to fall into disrepair. The lighthouse was scheduled for demolition in the 1980s before a grass-roots effort saved the building.

The Orlikowski Manor in Cleveland, Ohio
Orlikowski Manor is an impressive, red brick home in Cleveland Ohio's Slavic Village, built in 1895 by local businessman, Frank Orlikowski. Today, the house is owned by the Pulaski Franciscan CDC, the development arm of the local Catholic parish, St. Stanislaus -- the next stop on your walking tour. The church has restored the home to its original glory and is seeking a restaurant to occupy the space. It's currently used for special church functions and fund raisers.
