Gardens for Kids - Garden in a Bucket
To make gardening fun and accessible to kids, you need to make it personal. This is a gardening project from my local 4H organization that you can easily do with your own little clover buds. Garden in a Bucket lets kids create a personal, private garden that they can take with them, take care of, show off and enjoy. It takes only a few minutes of effort, but the junior gardener can enjoy his or her garden all summer.

How to Prune a Hybrid Tea Rose: Practical Tips for Pruning Your Roses
Hybrid tea roses aren't quite as fussy as their reputation would have you believe, but they do require some maintenance. Pruning hybrid tea roses will help keep them healthy and productive. Follow these easy steps to keep your hybrid tea blooming.

Getting Green Tomatoes to Ripen on the Vine
Too many green tomatoes on the vine and the cold weather is looming? Here's a quick tip to get those last beautiful tomatoes to vine ripen in time for picking.

Plants that Can Cause Skin Irritations
Some plants can cause itchy rashes when touched. Poison ivy may come to mind, but many common garden plants are also skin irritants, for some people. Carrots, dill, iris and elephant ears are among the handful of plants to touch with caution.

Waterproof Gardening Gloves - Warm, Dry and Durable
Gardening gloves are a very personal choice. Some gardeners can't work with them, others have several favorite pairs for different garden jobs. Here'a pair of gardening gloves that bridge the season, protecting your hands from the cold as well as some of the rougher jobs in the garden.

How to Make Herbal Jellies
This winter, treat yourself to the flavor of fresh herbs from your garden by mixing up some herbal jellies and jams. Great gift idea, too.

Reuseable Plant Container Insert - Makes Watering Easier
Gardeners put all sorts of things at the bottom of their plant containers to help water drain through and keep bugs out. Here's an elegant little product that takes the place of playing with stones, broken pots and screening and you can use it over and over again.

Soil Fertility and Growing Plants
Gardening starts with good soil. Good soil is basically soil that has the proper fertility to satisfy a growing plant's needs. What does that mean? Well, I'll tell you.

Organic Potting Soil
Do you need organic potting soil in your containers? Maybe not. But if you have the choice, wouldn't you rather have healthy, living soil rather than a growing 'medium' that requires tons of fertilizer to make it through the season? Here are some pros and cons of using an organic potting mix.

Scarify Seeds
Scarification means scratching or cracking the hard outer coat of a seed to help it germinate.

Houseplant Tips: Pot Bound Houseplants
Sooner or later a healthy, growing houseplant is going to out grow its pot, causing multiple growing problems from the plants inability to hold water to the roots circling and restricting themselves.

Messenger - A New Gardening Tool Against Plant Diseases
The plant health activator, Messenger, is neither a pesticide nor a fertilizer, although it has many advantages of both. Messenger fools a plant into thinking it is being attacked by a fungus, triggering the plant's defense mechanisms. It is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. Messenger shows great promise in helping gardeners to grow better plants and in cutting down on the need for fertilizers and pesticides.

How to Get Rid of Bagworms
If you have bagworms in your landscape, you’ve probably been told there’s not much you can do but cut them out of the tree and destroy them. New studies show promise that planting members of the Aster family, like daisies and gazania, near and/or around the susceptible tree will attract a natural predator of bagworm.

What is a basal leaf
A basal leaf is one that grows from the lowest part of the stem. Basal, in general, refers to the base of a structure. Many perennial plants are trimmed back to new basal foliage once the older foliage starts to look tired and worn.

Plant Crown: What does it mean to the gardener?
It is often recommended that perennial plants be planted with their crowns at soil level. What is the plant's crown and how will I recognize it?

Soil pH: What Constitutes Alkaline Soil?
If your garden soil tested low in pH or alkaline, what does that mean?

Water Gardening Photo Gallery
The water gardens featured here are each very personal to the gardener who designed them. Most people say their biggest mistake is not making their water garden large enough. These photos show how elaborate or intimate a water garden can be and still be inviting and satisfying to the gardener. I hope they'll provide you with some inspiration for designing your own water garden.
