Ghost Bar Las Vegas - Ghost Bar Palms Casino - Las Vegas Best Views - Ghost Bar Photos - Ghost Bar Nightclub - Gay-Friendly Vegas Lounges - Ghost Bar
The clientele at the Palms Casino resort is a bit hipper, youthful, and more stylish than at many properties on the Strip, and that holds true at the property's swanky Ghost Bar, which is perched high on the 55th floor and comprises a slick indoor lounge and a dramatic open-air balcony bar. It's not a gay hangout by any stretch, but among mainstream, see-and-be-see nightclubs in Vegas, it's at least something of a metrosexual, sophisticated spot - depending on the night, anyway. Page 8.

Las Vegas has both a gay gym-sex club, Hawk's Gym, and - in the same rather bizarre and shopping center - a slightly more lavish bathhouse called Entourage. Hawk's, pictured here, is beside the Vegas LGBT Center along the same strip of buildings that includes the Badlands Saloon gay bar. It's all part of the Commercial Center, a seedy and rather downcast shopping center a couple of miles east of where the Strip bumps into downtown. Page 11.

Among the many superb Asian restaurants located in generally unassuming shopping centers in off-Strip locations, Lotus Thai has long garnered some of the most devout praise from foodies and dining magazines. This simply decorated, reasonably priced spot has a wonderfully long and varied menu and serves the kinds of regional, truly authentic dishes that you'll seldom see at typical U.S. Thai restaurants. It's also in shopping center that's home as well to several gay bars and clubs. Page 3.

As Las Vegas has grown rapidly over the years, and mega-resorts have popped up all along the Las Vegas Strip, road traffic has become more and more congested in the area. Fortunately, at many busy intersections, sky bridges connect casinos and carry pedestrians over the traffic. It's generally wise to avoid driving on the Strip on weekend evenings and during rush hour, and better yet avoid it all together by using back entrances to casinos, cabs, and your legs - a little exercise never hurt. Even by luxury Hawaii standards, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai - which lies just a bit north of Kona International Airport along the starkly mesmerizing black-lava fields of the Kohala Coast - is both astoundingly beautiful and considerably expensive. But if I could spend a week at any hotel in Hawaii, this would be my first choice, and I'm not along in this view. The Big Island Four Seasons was one of the pioneers in site-sensitive design, eschewing the usual model of mammoth buildings. Page 5.

The lovably racy and slightly scandalous Silverado has been a stalwart of Portland gay nightlife for many years, and it's become even more popular since it moved to a much larger and more impressive downtown space a 10-minute walk from its former Stark Street location. The bar has two sections: you enter into the main club, where a few hunky (and generally quite hung) strippers dance (they're permitted to strip down completely naked in Portland) on stage and in a small cage to one side. It's surprising how many restaurants in this Pacific Northwest metropolis serve up credible Southern fare. The down-home, hipster-infested Screen Door is one of the best around, serving a mix of genuine Deep South standards (glorious fried chicken, hushpuppies with honey-Creole mustard, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, Carolina-style house-smoked pulled pork, and so on) and weekly rotating organic dishes produced with whatever's fresh and available from regional farms. There's also weekend brunch. Page 17.
