What I Take To a Race - Lip Balm
This one I learned from experience. You only need to sunburn your lips once in order to make a stick of lip block a staple in your race kit. It hurts, a lot. Avoid that pain if you can. Page 8.

What I Take To a Race - My Race Bag
This is my race bag. It holds everything I need for a long day at the track. It holds 12 drinks plus ice and has pockets for all of my racing essentials.

What I Take To a Race - My Scanner
A scanner adds a lot to your race day experience. This lives in an end pocket of my race bag which was made just for that purpose. If you don't own one I recommend renting one at the track. You get a lot more out of your race day with a scanner. Page 3.

What I Take To a Race - My Stopwatch
This racing stopwatch from Robic allows you to enter in the size of the track. Then when you time a lap it will calculate MPH. Mostly I use my stopwatch to track the gap between cars. When the leader has a big lead I use the stopwatch to see if the second place car is gaining. Television does this for you but you don't have that luxury from the stands. Page 10.

What I Take To a Race - Tickets!
When you go to a race you can buy just about anything you need at the track or live without it for the day. The one exception to that are your tickets. Always doublecheck when you leave home and again when you start walking from your car that you have the tickets. Page 2.

What I Take To a Race - Rain Poncho
I always have one of these in my race bag. Shop around and you can find rain ponchos for less than a dollar each. That is a lot better than what you'll pay at the track. Also, I take the word disposable literally. I don't even try to fold it up and reuse it I just toss it and replace it. New ones take up a lot less space in the bag. Page 12.

What I Take To a Race - Seat Cushion
This is the newest addition to my race gear. I never found a seat cushion that I liked until I found this convenient inflatable one. It folds up small but is remarkably comfortable on the stands. The trick here is to not blow it up all the way. This cushion is much more comfortable when it is only 3/4 full of air. Page 13.
