This cone is glossy brown with irregular white mid-body spiral, spire white with brown marks. The spire is flat with spiral grooves. The animal is bright yellow and the periostracum has fine spiral ridges. Page 19.

The coloration, pattern, and shell shape varies among individuals. Juveniles settle where they hatch unlike most cones. It attains 3 inches in length and feeds upon snails. The animal is tan with brown mottling, siphon is tipped with red, white and black. It can be found in Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific waters. Page 15.

The Crown Cone Shell ((Conus coronatus)) is very rare in Hawaii on benches and shallow reefs, but common throughout the Indo- Pacific area. This cone shell has a spiral pattern of brown and white dashes instead of dots in C. abbreviatus. It attains a size of 1.5 inches. Page 2.

Distantly-Lined Cone Conus distans
The Distantly-Lined Cone (Conus distans) is locally common on reefs in the surf zone to 20 feet. This is a large species (5 inches) with slightly concave sides and coronated spire. The thick periostracum often has spiral tufts. The shell is dirty cream to tan with purple base. The animal is tan to brown. The Distantly-Lined Cone is found in Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific waters. Flea Cone (Conus pulicarius) juveniles are abundant in sand adjacent to reefs at scuba depths. Large adults are uncommon in shallow water. Frigid Cone
The Frigid Cone (Conus frigidus) is extremely rare in shallow water in Hawaii and uncommon in the western Pacific. This cone has a smooth spire while the last whorl has beaded spirals. This cone attains 1.5 inches in size. Page 7.

Golden-Yellow Cone
The Golden-Yellow (Conus flavidus) Cone is common on reefs and in tidepools and sand pockets to 15 feet in Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific waters. The spire is low and smooth with a purple aperture. The shell is golden yellow with white a midbody spiral and purple base and Attains 2.5 inches in size. The animal is tan mottled with brown, siphon banded with black and yellow. Page 6.

Morelet's Cone (Conus moreleti) is common on reefs from 15 to 60 feet in Hawaiian and Indo-Pacific waters. It has a smooth and slender olive green shell without light mid-body spiral or granules. The spire is low and bumpy. The animal is reddish brown with distinctive orange, yellow, and black markings. It attains 2 inches in size and is sometimes confused with the much heavier Conus lividus. Olive-Green Cone
The Olive-Green (Conus lividus) Cone is abundant on shallow reefs and in tidepools in Hawaiian and the Indo-Pacific waters. The spire is coronated and body whorl often with beaded spirals toward the base. Color is olive to orange-brown with faint mid-body spiral. The animal is reddish black. This cone attains 3.5 inches. Page 8.

Spicer's Cone Conus spiceri
The Spicer's Cone (Conus spiceri) is rare in sand pockets or under rocks, locally common at Midway. Elongate, solid shell light yellow, aperture white, spire flat and smooth. Animal is brown with yellow head, siphon banded with black & white. Attains 5 inches. Endemic to Hawaii. Page 11.
