More on Hydrophobia or Fear of the Water
Aquaphobia does not need to be a lifelong sentence and can actually offer an opportunity for children and adults to overcome a very large obstacle and feel enormously proud of themselves, their effort and their success. With the right support and guidance, those suffering from an extreme and abnormal fear of water can overcome that overwhelming and paralyzing fear and move on to enjoy a lifestyle that includes swimming, boating, scuba diving and many other aquatic activities. Page 2.

The Self-Feeding Cycle of Hydrophobia
Organizations, with years of experience and a wealth of resources such as the American Red Cross and USA Swimming are very clear on their criteria and techniques for teaching swimming. It is a very technical approach and the more successful swim programs and their instructors are keenly aware that emotional support and positive reinforcement are important parts of that learning process. Swimmers have under active gluteus minimus muscles, potentially increasing their risk of injury on dryland.

Dryland Exercises - Develop a Swimmer's Catch Technique
How important is an Early Vertical Forearm in swimming? It is undoubtedly the most important propulsive element in swimming and unfortunately for most swimmers, it also the most elusive. The bad news is that all the streamlining and effective conditioning won't make-up for a dropped-elbow, the antecedent of an EVF. The good news is that coaches have new EVF equipment and know more about how to train swimmers so they can acquire and improve this critical skill.

EVF Training to Strengthen Swimmer's Shoulder Muscles
EVF training specifically isolates and strengthens the shoulder muscles and should not be avoided. In the world of competitive swimming, swimmer's shoulder is not a good thing! Strength training exercises will help defend swimmers against shoulder related problems. More importantly, the avoidance of shoulder strengthening exercises may actually increase the chances of a swimmer acquiring shoulder problems in the future. Page 2.
