Air Force Thunderbirds Show Schedule

New Air Force Airman Battle Uniform (ABU)
The new Airman Battle Uniform is ready for production and will be available in fiscal 2007. The new uniform design is a pixilated tiger stripe with four soft earth tones consisting of tan, grey, green and blue. The ABU will have a permanent crease and will be offered in 50-50 nylon-cotton blend permanent press fabric eliminating the need for winter and summer weight uniforms.

Air Force Career Job Reservation List
The Air Force has revised the career job reservation list to meet end-strength goals under force shaping. Basically, under the CJR program, first-term airmen must compete for a limited number of re-enlistment slots. If an Airman doesn't get one of these limited slots, they must either separate from the Air Force at the end of their current enlistment period, or agree to re-train into a different AFSC.

Air Force Fly Away Security Teams (FAST)
With daily airlift throughout Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa, U.S. aircraft are constantly flying in and out of unsecured locations. When necessary, they bring along a two- to four-person team for security. The mission is to protect the aircraft and crew through flight deck denial and ground security.

Robots of the Air Force

Nicknamed the Raptor, the F-22 is the most advanced and expensive fighter fielded by any air force in the world.

Peacekeeper Missile Deactivation
The era of the Peacekeeper intercontinental ballistic missile, often credited with helping end the Cold War, is coming to its own close Sept. 19 (2005) with the final phase of the deactivation process. The deactivation began in October 2002 after President Bush set a plan in motion in 2001 to reduce the country’s missile forces from 6,000 to between 1,700 and 2,200.

Flying the Predator UAV
Each MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle mission flown in the Iraqi sky begins and ends at Balad Air Base in Iraq. Sitting side by side in the “cockpit,” enlisted Airmen and officers work as a team providing top cover to Soldiers on the ground. Interestingly, after the unmanned aircraft takes off, control is passed to Nellis AFB in Nevada, until it's time to land.

Free Airline Tickets for Wounded/Sick Military Heros
Although the Defense Department provides a travel entitlement for service members and their families in serious medical emergencies, the Fisher House Foundation is hoping to help those service members and families not covered under the rule. Free airline tickets are available to service members undergoing treatment, as either an in- or outpatient at military and VA medical facilities as a result of their service in Iraq, Afghanistan and the surrounding area.

Nursing Degree Program for Reserve HM and DTs
A new program is now offered to Hospital Corpsman (HM) and Dental Technician (DT) drilling Reservists who are interested in pursuing a Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree (BSN). This new drilling option allows a drilling HM or DT to earn drill pay and credit for attending school. After earning a BSN degree and passing a state board of nursing licensure exam (NCLEX), the member may apply for a Nurse Corps commission.

Navy Enlisted Leadership Training Undergoes Transformation
In order to keep up with ever changing leadership roles and improvements to Sailors’ development and professionalism, three new classes, the First Line Leadership Development Program (FLLDP), Primary Leadership Development Program (PLDP), and Advanced Leadership Development Program (ALDP) have emerged from the Naval Leadership Training Continuum (NLTC).

U.S. Navy High Speed Vessel (HSV)
The Navy is experimenting with a second aluminum-hull High Speed Vessel, HSV 2 Swift. Swift is the successor to HSV 1 Joint Venture and brings new transformational capabilities to the Navy and Marine Corps team. At 321 feet, Swift is faster than most ships, with a top speed of almost 50 knots. The catamaran hulls draw only about 11 feet of water, making the ship ideal for missions in shallow coastal waters.

Marine Corps Designated Marksmen
In the early days of the Corps, leathernecks were recruited to sit atop high masts on U.S. Naval vessels to pick-off enemies during ship-to-ship battles with their muzzle-loaded muskets. May is National Military Appreciation Month
Both chambers of the U.S. Congress have adopted a resolution calling for Americans to recognize and honor U.S. service members during May's National Military Appreciation Month. Traditionally, May has focused on the military in many ways. For example, Armed Forces Day, created in 1949, is an annual event held on the third Saturday in May, with activities at U.S. military bases around the world. The month culminates with Memorial Day, a federal holiday on the last Monday in May.

Air Force Dental Technicians to Train as Hygienists
The Air Force has teamed up with Trident Technical College in Charleston to send dental technicians to an Air Force-sponsored dental hygiene training scholarship program. Graduates of the program earn an associate degree at the end of the 14-month course. Air Force officials plan to send four to five dental technicians a year through TTC, along with five or six others through a similar program at St. Petersburg College in Florida.

Army Suggestion Program
Soldiers and Department of the Army civilians can now go online to offer Army suggestions -- and possibly win some cash. The program seeks suggestions that improve work methods, materials, processes, equipment, logistics, utilities or tools that will benefit the Army. Implemented suggestions that save the Army money are often eligible for a cash award.

The Army College Fund (ACF) is an enlistment benefit that adds to the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB). One cannot have the ACF without participating in the MGIB, as the two programs run hand-in-hand.

All Soliders to Wear U.S. Flag on Uniforms
All Soldiers can now wear the U.S. flag insignia on the right shoulder of their utility uniform, as a continued reminder that the Army is engaged in a war at home and abroad. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker approved the uniform item Feb. 11, and all Soldiers have until Oct. 1, 2005 to get the insignia sewn on their uniforms.

2006 Military Base Pay
Both the House and Senate versions of the FY 2006 Military Authorization Act authorize an across-the-board base pay increase of 3.1 percent, which makes it pretty much a 'done deal.'

Child Support Allowance (BAH-DIFF)
Special rules apply for active duty members who live in the barracks and pay child support. Military members who don't have custody, and are paying child or spouse support, ARE NOT authorized to reside in the barracks and receive full-rate BAH. Instead, such members are paid an entitlement called BAH-DIFF, or BAH Differential.

Single (unmarried) military members who reside on-base in unaccompanied government quarters (barracks), who pay child support are entitled to a monthly monetary allowance called BAH-DIFF.
