Choose a Photo or Video to Share
The first step in using Instagram Direct is to set up a photo or video in Instagram exactly the way you do it for public sharing. So, you can simply tap the middle camera button to snap a photo or film a video, or you can upload an existing one from your cameraroll or other folder on your mobile device.

Choose Up to 15 Instagram Direct Recipients
The Direct tab allows you to type in a caption for your photo or video at the top, followed by a list of users that you interact with the most on Instagram, and then the rest of who you are following.

Watch Your Recipients Interact in Real-time
Once your message has been sent, Instagram will take you to your inbox where you can view a list of all your most recent sent and received messages. You can actually tap your recently sent message and watch as your recipients open it to view it, like it or add a comment on it.

The very first thing you need to do is grab your iOS or Android mobile device. Instagram currently only works on these two mobile operating systems, with a version for Windows Phone also coming soon. If you don’t have a device that is running iOS or Android (or Windows Phone), unfortunately you can’t use Instagram at this time. Only limited access to Instagram is available on the web and you need a compatible mobile device to actually use it.

Next, download the official Instagram app from the iTunes App Store for iOS devices or from the Google Play store for Android devices. To do this, simply open Google Play or the App Store on your mobile device and do a search for “Instagram.” The first search result should be the official Instagram app. Download and install it to your device.

Now you can get started with creating your free Instagram user account. Tap “Register” to do this. Instagram will lead you through the steps to create your account. You’ll need to choose a username and a password first. You can upload a profile photo and connect to your Facebook friends either now or later. Instagram also requires you to fill out your email, name and an optional phone number.

Instagram will display a list of hashtags related to your search. Sometimes, You'll just get one result., like we did here with #cats. Other times, Instagram will show you several other related hashtags with the word or phrase included in your search.

Tap the User Result to View Their Instagram Profile
For users in Instagram search, the most relevant and/or popular users are displayed at the very top, along with their name and profile photo. You can tap any user result to view their profile.
